True Blood Sangria
A guest Post from a good friend!
I am fortunate to work with The Manly Housewife himself, so I have real-time, ready access to his vast array of recipes, especially mixed-drink recipes. To honor the season 3 premiere of my family’s favorite show, True Blood, Sunday night, I planned a menu of “blood red” (or almost so) foods and beverages. When I needed a good recipe for Sangria Punch, I knew just who to go to for that recipe. The Manly Housewife’s Sangria Punch II recipe did not disappoint! It was well received by all members of my family, from my 76-year-old godfather, who promptly fell asleep after one glass, to my 28-year-old daughter in law, who has a sophisticated wine palate, after years of managing a liquor store. Listed below is the recipe, as given, and our additions in parentheses that made it uniquely ours:
Manly Housewife Sangria Punch II
1 large bottle of Dry Red Wine (whatever you like, we chose a sweet, dessert-type one) ½ Cup Brandy (I used Peach flavor) ½ Cup Triple Sec ¼ Cup Lemon Juice (I used freshly squeezed) ½ Cup Frozen Lemonade Concentrate (I used raspberry lemonade) (½ Cup Frozen Grape Juice Concentrate) ½ Cup Orange Juice ¼ Cup Fine White Sugar 2 Cups Lemon-Lime Soda (optional) Fruit, sliced as a floating garnish: 1 Lemon, sliced into thin rounds 1 Lime, sliced into thin rounds 1 Orange, sliced into small wedges (I also added 1 Peach, sliced into small wedges, and several small chunks of fresh pineapple.) 8 Maraschino CherriesDirections:
- In a very large pitcher or bowl, mix wine, brandy, Triple Sec, juices (fresh and frozen concentrates), and sugar.
- Slice fruit and float in punch mixture.
- Refrigerate until well chilled (or overnight, for best flavor).
- Mix with Soda (lemon-lime or Club soda), just before serving for fizzy sangria.
A note from The Manly Housewife. If this Sangria seems to much a challenge then I have a easier recipe Easy Sangria
